Imagine you’ve done everything right.
You found a potential client.
They opened your email.
They clicked over to your website.
They listened to your demo.
And then…
Nothing.
No reply.
No audition.
No request for rates.
No conversation.
They disappear.
Most voice actors look at that situation and conclude:
“I need more leads.”
Maybe you don’t.
Because if people are already discovering you and they’re not taking the next step, finding more people may simply give you more people who don’t take the next step.
This is where the second principle of AIM™ becomes important:
INFLUENCE Decisions™
INFLUENCE is what happens after you’ve earned someone’s attention.
Attention Isn’t The Goal
Marketing often gets reduced to visibility.
Get noticed.
Get clicks.
Get traffic.
Get opens.
Get people listening to your demo.
Those things matter.
Yet none of them pays you.
Eventually someone has to make a decision.
Reply.
Ask a question.
Request an audition.
Ask for a quote.
Book you.
Hire you again.
That’s why I think about INFLUENCE as your ability to:
Build trust, demonstrate value, stay relevant, and give potential clients reasons to move forward with you.
Your Demo Doesn’t Have To Do All The Work
Voice actors understandably put enormous importance on their demos.
They should.
Your demo is important.
Yet your potential client isn’t evaluating your demo in isolation.
They’re experiencing you.
Your email.
Your website.
Your positioning.
Your follow-up.
Your communication.
How easy you are to work with.
How quickly you respond.
Whether they remember you.
Whether they believe you’re the right fit for their project.
All of those little experiences influence a decision.
That’s why a great demo can open a door…
without necessarily closing the sale.
Why Follow-Up Matters So Much
Here’s one of the biggest mistakes I see in marketing:
We assume no response means no interest.
It doesn’t.
People get busy.
Projects get delayed.
Priorities change.
Emails get buried.
Budgets aren’t approved.
Maybe they don’t need a voice actor today.
None of that means they won’t need one next month.
The problem is that most businesses stop communicating too soon.
One email goes out.
No reply.
End of relationship.
Effective follow-up changes that.
It allows you to stay present without starting over every time.
And that matters because when a project eventually appears, you don’t want the buyer asking:
“Who can I find?”
You want them thinking:
“I know exactly who I should contact.”
How Do You Know If INFLUENCE Is Your Constraint?
Your INFLUENCE function may need attention if:
People visit your website without reaching out.
Prospects listen to your demos without taking another step.
Your outreach gets opened without receiving replies.
People initially show interest and disappear.
Follow-up is inconsistent.
Prospects routinely ghost you.
Or you seem to create opportunities that rarely become conversations or clients.
Again, the instinct may be to create more opportunities.
That can make the problem worse.
You’re simply pouring more people into a process that’s already losing them.
Instead ask:
Once someone discovers me, am I giving them enough reasons to keep moving?
That’s an entirely different problem.
And it requires an entirely different solution.
Then Comes The Third Problem
Suppose ATTRACT is working.
You’re creating opportunities.
INFLUENCE is working.
Those opportunities are becoming conversations and clients.
Great.
Now something unexpected can happen.
You get busy.
You start recording.
Editing.
Auditioning.
Answering clients.
Managing projects.
Sending invoices.
And suddenly…
The marketing that created all that business stops.
Which brings us to the third AIM™ principle:
MULTIPLY Yourself™.
